Who remembers the science-fiction TV series Supernatural? It ran from 2005 to 2020 on WB/CW and was about two brothers as they went on a search for ghosts, demons, and all sorts of other supernatural beings (hence the name of the show). One of the brothers drove a menacing black 1967 Chevy Impala Sport Sedan, which became the show’s “signature” vehicle. The seller’s car was something of a tribute 20 years ago but no longer has a powertrain. From a driveway in Lenoxville, Pennsylvania, this rolling project is available here on eBay for $10,900. An attaboy goes to Mitchell G. for another out-of-this-world tip!
We understand that as many as nine 1967 Impala 4-door hardtops were used throughout the 15-year series that produced a whopping 327 episodes. Mechanically, there wasn’t anything special with the cars used, most having 283 or 327 cubic inch V8s under the hood with 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmissions. One car was reportedly beefed up with a GM 502 crate motor. The appearance of the show Chevy, with its dark color, multiple doors, and a large trunk, was thought to suit the tone of the show rather than that of a 1965 Ford Mustang as originally envisioned.
We’re told that this Chevy was once a show car, though we don’t know if it had any real association with the TV series. It’s been sitting in a driveway for 20 years, thus idle for part of the time the characters were on the screen. It also wears dark blue paint instead of black. The passage of time and an encroachment by Mother Nature have done a number on the floors and rear quarter panels. The frame is good because the Impala sat on gravel and not dirt. It also needs some new glass.
The seller says the vehicle once had a 350 V8 (not period correct?) and a manual tranny (3 or 4-speed and where’s the clutch pedal?). Check out the side exhaust (fake?) and the bright blue paint all over the engine compartment. Plus, get a load of the wide assortment of horns! This could be an interesting car to restore in the vein of Supernatural, though it’s far from being as iconic as the 1966 Batmobile or Green Hornet Imperial.
